Overview Chinese Delegation Visits NVRC
  • At its February 24 meeting, NVRC welcomed visitors from the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, headquartered in Beijing
    • Mr. Shen Xin, the Association’s Director of U.S. Affairs
    • Ms. Li Sanghua, the Association’s Deputy Director of U.S. Affairs
  • The presentation was a direct result of an agreement, signed during Chinese President Hu Jintao’s recent visit to the United States, recognizing the importance of increased cooperation at the sub-national level
  • Commission members and the Chinese delegation discussed China's rapid growth, lessons to be learned from growth in U.S. cities and counties, regional partnerships, diversified energy sources, and high-speed rail
  • Representatives from NVRC attended the Asian Pacific Economic Council’s conference in Langfang, China in 2010, a trip arranged through the assistance of the Friendship Association
  • The NVRC board has approved application to the U.S. Department of State to participate in the U.S.-China EcoPartnerships program

United States-China Memorandum of Understanding
  • The Friendship Association presentation at NVRC is a direct result of a memorandum of understanding that was signed during Chinese President Hu Jintao’s recent state visit
    • Through this agreement, the United States and China recognized the importance of increased cooperation at the sub-national level
    • This presentation and others like it will help to broaden understanding of the expanding political ties between the United States and China and to inform local leaders of the potential for increased economic opportunities and relationships

NVRC Attends Asian Pacific Economic Council Conference
  • NVRC Commissioner and Arlington County Board Member Barbara Favola and NVRC Executive Director G. Mark Gibb attended the Asian Pacific Economic Council’s conference in Langfang, China last spring
  • The trip was arranged through the assistance of Mr. Shen and the Friendship Association
  • Ms. Favola and Mr. Gibb were able to spend time in Beijing for discussions on developing regional relationships

NVRC Applies to Participate in U.S.-China EcoPartnerships Program
  • NVRC has applied to the U.S. Department of State to participate in the U.S.-China EcoPartnerships
  • The EcoPartnerships program is aimed at developing new models of mutually-beneficial voluntary arrangements between a range of state, local and private sector organizations
  • The goal is to promote energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability in both the United States and China

Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries
  • A non-profit group, founded in 1954
  • Supported by the government and international corporations
  • Oversees the sister-city program for China
  • Has regular exchanges with local governments in the United States a variety of topics, such as education, health and culture
