U.S. - E.U. Conference on Climate Change
The First U.S. – European Conference of Metropolitan Regional Councils
- Held April 9-12, 2008, in Alexandria, Virginia, to address climate change and energy conservation
- Participants included representatives of more than 20 U.S. and European regional councils
- The Northern Virginia Regional Commission and the metropolitan regions and areas of the United States and Europe signed a Declaration of Cooperation to support long-term cooperation between U.S. and European regional councils on the topics of climate change and sustainable energy policies
Conference Topics
- Conference presentations addressed the vital role played by U.S. and European metropolitan regions in the efforts to address climate change
- Provided a forum for exchanges of lessons and policies
- Focused on topics such as "green" buildings, renewable energy, sustainable transportation, climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, and energy conservation best practices
