NVRC's Role in HOPWA
HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS) funds available in suburban Virginia are part of a formula award made to the Washington D.C. Eligible Metropolitan Area (EMA) as a metropolitan area that is heavily impacted by HIV/AIDS.

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) serves as the administrative agent for HOPWA funds available in suburban Virginia. NVRC receives and subcontracts to provide services with the portion of the metro Washington HOPWA award that is earmarked for HOPWA services to suburban Virginia residents with HIV/AIDS.  The suburban Virginia HOPWA award is made available to NVRC through the D.C. Department of Health, HIV/AIDS Administration, which receives the metro Washington award directly from HUD.
