The Nexus program of VHO serves low income HIV-infected individuals who receive their outpatient medical care from non-Ryan White medical providers, including private infectious diseases practices. Clients must be eligible for the Ryan White Program. Nexus offers:

• connection to Ryan White supportive and clinical services for which consumers may be eligible;
• education in using insurance;
• enrollment in Affordable Care Act plans;
• medical case management;
• payment of some health insurance premiums, co-payments and deductibles; and
• referrals to mental health services.

VHO helps clients enroll in health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Clients must be eligible for the Ryan White AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), operated by the Virginia Dept. of Health (VDH), VDH has determined that, for eligible clients, paying for insurance provides these very expensive medications at less cost than direct distribution. Insurance also improves over-all health by covering all medical conditions not just HIV as covered by direct ADAP.

VHO meets directly with referred clients during the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Open Enrollment period to assist with enrollment or re-enrollment.
