Land Use and Transportation

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission Provides
  • A regional perspective on land use issues and their interrelationship with other planning functions;
  • Information, technical assistance and analysis to local governments for their development and implementation of local land use plans;
  • Legislative and regulatory monitoring and analysis related to Northern Virginia's land use and transportation issues;
  • Support for regular meetings of local planning directors to promote information exchange of information and encourage cooperation and coordination.
Special Projects
In addition, NVRC conducts local contract projects such as ordinance and comprehensive plan updates.

Metropolitan Planning Organization
The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) is the federally-designated "Metropolitan Planning Organization" for the Washington metropolitan area.  Visit the MWCOG website.
