The Northern Virginia Regional Commission is pleased to release its report entitled, “Resilient Critical Infrastructure: A Roadmap for Northern Virginia”.
Community resilience, the ability to withstand the impacts of shocks and stresses and recover community functions quickly, is a local and a national issue. The Roadmap outlines a framework of actions that is meant to create a strategic approach to planning for resilience in the critical infrastructure in Northern Virginia. The scope of this “Roadmap” is limited to building resilience of critical infrastructure sectors in Northern Virginia to projected climate stressors of heat, precipitation and sea level rise over an 80 year planning horizon. Development of the Roadmap was undertaken within the period of November 2016 to December 2017, and funded in part by a grant from the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program. NVRC is grateful to the 29 governmental, academic, private sector and NGO partners that participated in this project.
This is the first deliverable in a three year planning effort. Next steps include reconvening the work group to develop an action plan to move forward with suggested planning activities.
